Dressers

Despite being often referred to as Welsh dressers, in fact these are from all over the United Kindom. This sort of antique furniture is sometimes called country, oak, or provincial antique furniture, but those that love/collect/admire/use it sometimes prefer that it is called vernacular furniture. The wonderful thing about vernacular furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries is that a dresser from this period usually has attained the most wonderful colour and patination that only the passage of time can bestow apon a piece. The patination can affect the value of a dresser as much as other factors such as originality, practicality and function - particularly if the dresser is made of an interesting timber such as elm or yew wood. As there are regional variations to the design of vernacular furniture it is ofter possible to attribute an antique dresser to a specific region or town. For more information about this there are several good books on the subject such as Victor Chinnery "Oak Furniture A British Tradition". Please select either full dressers, or dresser bases:
